Honoring a hero of the faith

Today we honored one of my favorite people of APU, Gladys Wilson. I first met class when I moved to California in 1985. We attended church together at Arrow Highway Wesleyan Church and then in 1986 when I began working at APU Gladys worked there as well. Gladys was my birthday buddy though a couple of years older.

We had many wonderful talks and times of laughter. One of my favorite memories is when Gladys called to tell me her computer terminal looked "funny." I wasn't sure what she meant so I walked over to her office that was in the back part of Smith Hall. When I got there the terminal was fading in and out. Come to find out we were having a minor electrical problem in Smith Hall. This was because HBO (or Showtime I don't remember which) was filming OJ Simpson's TV show. The lights and all the equipment were pulling all the power. We found this funny and were laughing. Evidently we were laughing loud enough we were disturbing the filming. One of the crew came over to tell us to be quiet.

I miss Gladys. She was a good and faithful friend. I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to sit in her office right before Christmas and we were able to chat for quite awhile. Then again in January not long before her stroke we were able to talk during the Heart to Heart lunch.

The event today was very nice and appropriately honored a godly woman. Many lives at APU were touched by her faithful service.

Let's try this method

My second attempt was successful, but I want to be able to send my pictures as well. So this time I will send my lizard via email. Will it work?

Football is here!

Today was a scrimmage for Mark in football.  This year he has a new coach. Even though he’s one of our biggest kids he doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct when it comes to sports.  Makes me think he’s adopted. HA

I think he’s going t try harder this season, hopefully he’ll start getting the hang of it. He’s number 31.DSC_7871

Let us Never Forget

APU 9-11 tribute
This is the display set up on our West Campus in Azusa.
The email that was sent out this morning from the University’s President’s Council:

Eight years ago today, the United States of America and the world experienced a tragedy that would change us, and unite us. Today, we invite you, as members of the APU community, to take a moment to pause and remember those lost through the circumstances of 9/11. A group of Azusa Pacific University ROTC students have created a memorial on the West Campus lawn that is an impactful reminder and a challenge to never forget.
The memorial, created with 2,996 American and international flags representing each life lost will be on display until sunset (picture above).
Blessings on your day.

First APU Home Football Game

Last night was APU’s second game and first home game. It is also Orientation weekend for new students, which means there would be a large crowd. The university was able to use Citrus Stadium which was a good thing.  There was an estimated 5000 people there for the game.

Unfortunately, San Diego was just a little stronger.  Although I didn’t get any really good pictures of the game I did have some fun with the people on the sidelines.

During the game one of the players was injured and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. His teammates that were on the field at the time gather in prayer on his behalf.

This was probably the best picture I got all night. Before September 26 gotta figure out the best setting for night pictures.

La Jolla August 27

Had to go down to the San Diego Center for an orientation for School of Education.  We left early enough to make sure we didn’t get caught in traffic. Fortunately, no traffic meant time to kill.  So we stopped at La Jolla to check out the beach.  It was a gorgeous day and it’s a beautiful beach.
